The Holy Bible, specifically the King James Version (KJV), is a revered English translation of the Christian Bible used by the Church of England. Completed in 1611 and commonly known as the Authorized Version (AV) or King James Bible (KJB), this translation holds historical and cultural significance.
Consisting of both the Old and New Testaments, the Old Testament is a collection of books that includes Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, Job, Psalms, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Solomon, Wisdom of Solomon, Ecclesiasticus, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk,Zephaniah,Haggai,Zechariah,and Malachi.
The translation process involved 47 scholars who were members of the Church of England. The New Testament was translated from Greek and the Old Testament from Hebrew texts. Additionally,the Apocrypha were translated from Greek and Latin sources. This translation aimed to align with the beliefs and structure of the Church of England.
After its completion in 1611,the King James Bible gained widespread usage within Anglican and Protestant churches. Eventually,it became the standard English translation for religious studies,replacing the Latin Vulgate. The edition most commonly used today is the standard text of 1769 initially edited by Benjamin Blayney at Oxford. In the United States,it is widely referred to as simply the King James Version (KJV).
